Scottish Charity Golf Day – A Master Stroke Event

Our Scottish Charity Golf Day certainly wasn’t ‘below par’. At the legendary Gleneagles Golf Course, 52 players from the hair industry took to the PGA Centenary Course, home of the 2014 Ryder Cup. We’re so grateful for the huge turnout. Stylists, distributors and brands were brought together to raise over £8,000 for helping hairdressers in need.

The competitive golfing began with a shotgun start at 10am after a briefing with event organiser & our charity committee member, Peter Belcher. Followed by dinner and awards in the Clubhouse to end the day. Massive congratulations to all the winners as followed:

Individual Winner – Gary Barker of UNITE.
Team Winners – UNITE.
Longest Drive – Scott McKauch.
Nearest Pin – Scott McIntosh.
Raffle – 16 prizes including a silent auction on Gleneagles FourBall – won by Brian Thompson of Lesley Hair in Inverness.
Apple Watch – Warren Scarr of Sally Services.
2 tickets to BHBA  – Rainbow Rooms.
Wella’s Golf at the Belfry – Wayne Blackburn & John O’Rouke.

“It was a tremendous day and the PGA course was magnificent with 52 golfers were lead out on to the PGA course by the Gleneagles Team. Guests from around the UK with The Gallery flying up from Kent, a team from Northern Ireland and UNITE coming from USAm which raised the stakes and it was lovely to see so many making a special effort to be there. When the golf was over, guests enjoyed a 3course meal & charity auction in the event.” Peter Belcher

A few lovely words were sent in by fellow golfer on the day and orgnaiser of our Southern Golf Day, Lorenzo Colangelo, of The Gallery who summed up the day: “I just want to say what an incredible couple of days we had at Gleneagles. Peter and Liz were absolutely amazing. Not just for the organisation, but they set a great mood for a fun charity day at an incredible venue that had everyone’s focus on the charity. It ran incredibly smoothly. The team at Gleneagles managed the event so brilliantly, it was a joy to be a part of. I can’t thank Peter enough for taking this on. To see the day make some good cash for the charity is a massive bonus. I think everyone left the day happy and better aware of the great charity we are part of.”

The event wouldn’t have run as smoothly without the gracious support of our event sponsor, OSMO. A massive thank you to the award sponsors Creightons, SalonNV, BarberNV, and Sally’s, plus hole sponsors Ishoka, Alison Jamerson, Charlie Miller, Goldwell, Lorenzo Colangelo, Philip Rogers, Crazy Color, Patersons, OSMO, Peter Belcher, ghd, Rainbow Room, McIntyres, HJ and Hair & Beauty World.

5 Minutes With a Fundraiser: David Lambert

We’re here with another 5 Minutes With a Fundraiser, and this time it’s Haringtons Hairdressing Director, David Lambert.

What inspired you to become a fundraiser for The Hairdressers’ Charity?

Charity begins at home so it’s very important to support our industry charity. Even more importantly, it is severely underfunded so I love knowing I am doing something great!

What ways have you been fundraising?

I’ve done three amazing bike rides including one last year where I cycled 200 miles in Northern Majorca. We also hold annual company awards, where we show a video for The Hairdressers’ Charity to spread awareness, hold a collection in the interval and the ticket price is donated to the charity. It’s a great event.

David Lambert2

How successful have your fundraisers been?

So far I have raised about £9,500 from the bike rides and about £400 per year from the awards. I was awarded the President’s Award at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing President’s Night for my consistent and support, which has motivated me to continue my work.

Do you have any plans in the future for more events?

We have our annual awards planned of course, and if I am in the country a possible bike ride in September.

What do you love about fundraising?

Fundraising for the charity is so worthwhile as it makes a huge difference to people’s lives and I know every penny raised goes to helping them. It makes it more special as it is for our own industry, and you never know when someone close to you might need the help of the charity.

What has been your highlight in a fundraising event?

I am proud of the amount of money I have raised… I’m very competitive!

What are your top tips for a successful fundraiser?

Focus on your goal, which is raising money! Don’t let anything stop you from raising the highest amount you possibly can.

L’Oréal Gold Sponsor

As a charity, regular donations are vital for our preservation and success. This means we rely on the generosity of individuals and sponsors to be able to keep providing the essential care to the hairdressers who need it most.

We are proud that L’Oreal Professionnel has been a sponsor of ours for over 15 years. A yearly donation through their gold sponsorship and dedicated fundraising events have raised critical funds for the charity.

“Supporting The Hairdressers’ Charity is really important to all the team at L’Oréal Professional Products Division. As the only charity that supports hairdressers in times of need, it’s really important that we can support. As a committee member, I really get to hear the difference we can make and I really am grateful to how we can support others.” explains Darren Oram, Education Director at L’Oréal Professionnel.

Every year the Professional Products Division not only sponsor The Hairdressers’ Charity but also spend time raising money through fundraisers. In June 2016 the L’Oreal Education team ran a charity hair day, raising funds by doing the hair of colleagues within the company, where all the proceeds were donated straight to The Hairdressers’ Charity. Also in 2016, the team offered a popular course to salons, where the cost of this was paid directly to the charity, raising thousands of extra pounds.

L’Oreal Citizens Day is an annual event, committed to raising money for chosen charities. It has always been a massive success and is a great way for the whole team to get involved. This year it’s held on 22nd June 2018, how will you put something back into your industry?
